  • Third Quarter Fundraising Analysis

    ClintonObama As time goes on, it looks like more and more that the 2008 Democratic race for the presidency is a two horse race.  Third quarter fundraising totals seem to show this.  Hillary Clinton was the big winner this time at over $27 million, while Barack Obama came in second with $19 million.  John Edwards, who started the campaign in the first tier, appears to be slipping both polls and money.  He reported just $7 million.  Edwards also plans on accepting federal financing for the race.  Bill Richardson again posted decent fundraising totals.

    On the GOP side, Fred Thompson posted a decent first quarter of fundraising at $8 million.  Giuliani and Romney likely raised more, however.  Ron Paul is likely the only candidate to increase fundraising from the second quarter (from just over $2 million to just over $5 million).  Despite low numbers, John McCain is on a small rebound.  Huckabee, Brownback, Tancredo, and Hunter continue to struggle raising money, suggesting that the end might be near.
