Third Quarter Fundraising Analysis
As time goes on, it looks like more and more that the 2008 Democratic race for the presidency is a two horse race. Third quarter fundraising totals seem to show this. Hillary Clinton was the big winner this time at over $27 million, while Barack Obama came in second with $19 million. John Edwards, who started the campaign in the first tier, appears to be slipping both polls and money. He reported just $7 million. Edwards also plans on accepting federal financing for the race. Bill Richardson again posted decent fundraising totals. On the GOP side, Fred Thompson posted a decent first quarter of fundraising at $8 million. Giuliani and Romney likely raised more, however. Ron Paul is likely the only candidate to increase fundraising from the second quarter (from just over $2 million to just over $5 million). Despite low numbers, John McCain is on a small rebound. Huckabee, Brownback, Tancredo, and Hunter continue to struggle raising money, suggesting that the end might be near.
